In his exhibition Grammatik einfach erklärt, Florian Slotawa (b. 1972, Rosenheim, DE) references Wassily Kandinsky’s manifesto Punkt und Linie zu Fläche (Engl.: Point and Line to Plane), replacing the classical canvas with slatted frames and trays. Slats and rods become lines, while rubber elements function as points, generating rhythm and structure. The standardized sizes, colors, and materials of these everyday objects establish clear boundaries and define the system within which Slotawa operates. Characteristic of his practice, he draws on the everyday, uncovers a distinct beauty within it, and through minimal interventions shapes an exhibition that can be read like a visual score. The objects used—whether canisters, trays, or slatted frames—remain clearly recognizable at all times and do not pretend to be something else.
