Swedish forests, endangered species & a special place in heaven where extinct animals go…

For her first solo exhibition in Switzerland, Emilia Bergmark (b. 1986, Selånger, SE) reflects on the rapidly changing natural environment of her Nordic homeland. Two large-scale narrative tapestries trace the post-industrial impact on Sweden’s forests, combining illustrated imagery with traditional textile techniques. The motifs stand in strong contrast, as they are based on species surveys—conducted by Bergmark in collaboration with a forest biologist—of the rich, biodiverse Kerrosmäkiforest and a nearby tree plantation lacking such ecological variety.Alongside these works, the Copenhagen-based artist presents new ceramic pieces and a site-specific installation conceived for the gallery’s ceiling window. These works pay tribute to extinct and endangered species such as the dodo, the passenger pigeon, and the golden toad. A bilingual poster in English and German accompanies the exhibition, inviting visitors to explore the artworks in dialogue with the ecological questions emerging from the artist’s research.
